Abstract

Adsorption is a unique process for the removal of pollutants from water and wastewater since the process is cost effective, easily adoptable and environmentally compatible. Removal of Chromium (VI) from aqueous solutions was studied using abundantly available Calcined Brick Powder (CBP), a popular construction material as a sorbent media under various experimental conditions. The removal of Cr (VI) ions on CBP was studied under various sorption parameters such as contact time, effect of pH, initial concentration of metal ions and amount of sorbent on the adsorption capacity. The maximum removal efficiency of 81% was achieved at pH 2.0 for Cr (VI) at equilibrium conditions. Adsorption characteristics exhibited by CBP were satisfactory and the isotherms were in conformity with both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms.
