Abstract

Phytoremediation is a promising, cost effecting and environmentally suitable technology for water sanitation and conservation. Chromium is highly toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic; Phytoremediation is a suitable technique for the removal of chromium 75%. In the present work the chromium remediation ability of Filamentous Cyanobacteria Anabaena flos-aquae West. was studied and their efficiencies were compared. Results indicate significant improvement of photosynthetic pigments. An integrated eco-friendly approach for the tannery effluent treatment through Filamentous cyanobacteria based phytoremediation is envisaged as part of the environmental management.
