Abstract

The present study was carried out to find the changes in physico-chemical parameters in 3 different sites of Bhatye estuary, Ratnagiri coast Maharashtra, India. The various parameters like temperature; pH, salinity disolved oxygen (DO), chlorides, calcium, total hardness (TH), magnesium, sodium and potassium were measured during September, 2008 to August, 2009. The minimum and maximum values of atmospheric and surface water temperature were 27.0–34.8 (°c); pH 7.4–8.7; salinity 26.0–35.0 (°/00) and dissolved oxygen were 3.5–5.3 (ml/l). The minimum and maximum ranges of chlorides, (26.0–34.7 mg/l); calcium, (0.23–0.44); total hardness, (5.8–7.8 ml/l); magnesium, (1.0–1.5 mg/l); sodium, (0.33–0.78 mg/l) and the potassium, (0.33–0.72 mg/l) were recorded. Results reveal that water parameters like temperature (atmospheric and surface water), pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), chlorides, calcium, total hardness (TH), magnasium, sodium and potassium of Bhatye estuary show variations during the study period.
