Abstract

The decolorizing activity of fresh water cyanobacterium Oscillatoria annea combined with coir pith was used in tannery effluent treatment in different concentrations. This degraded efficiency of cyanobacterium was able to decolorize the effluent and the good growth of the cyanobacterium was performed at the optimum temperature 29±2°C and PH near 7. The parameters like Chloride, Salinity and nutrients like Nitrite, Nitrate, Ca, and Mg were analyzed. The concentration of chlorophyll ‘a’ and protein content were increased. The percentage of decolorization was confirmed by spectral analysis, and it was further confirmed by the determination of Dissolved Oxygen and Biological Oxygen Demand.
