Response of soil chemical properties to Ashed and Unashed agro-wastes amendments

Abstract

Slightly acidic (pH=6.20) sandy loam soil incubated for six and twelve weeks respectively, with agro-wastes [coconut husk ash (CHA), coconut husk unashed (CHU), corn cob ash (CCA) and corn cob unashed (CCU)] at 0, 5 and 10 t/ha under greenhouse conditions in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. A completely randomized design was adopted with the treatments replicated thrice. Irrespective of incubation time, the result showed that in some treatments, the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the soil increased as agro-waste applications increased, with six weeks soil incubated coconut husk ashed pots having the best performance over other treatments.
