An attempt has been made to access ground water quality status of Hoshiarpur Distt. Water samples from hand pumps (shallow depth) at different sites have been analysed to find the suitability for drinking purpose and determine the effect of each parameter on quality of water. The physico-chemical parameters of water such as pH, EC, Hardness, Sulphate and Chloride have been studied. The analytical results indicate the variation in chemical content of different samples and their effect on quality, by each parameter. The results reveal that the overall water quality was found unfit for drinking purposes without prior treatment. Some of the parameters effect the quality of water adversely. Some do not show any harmful effect.
