Abstract

Tiruchirappalli falls under the east-west migratory path of butterflies according to Kishen Das (2010). The present study focuses on the population dynamics and pattern of seasonal migration of Danaus chrysippus at Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirappalli, India during the year 2009. The study was conducted to find the population of plain tiger butterfly in a 25 acre campus in four different seasons. During the study period it was observed that the numbers were relatively high in June, October and November which are the months of seasonal migration with the average sighting being 159 per study compared to 61 in the other months. The results revealed that there were significant relation between rainfall and population of butterfly.
