Abstract

The presence of high concentration of arsenic (As) in drinking water hAs a harmful effect on the human health and As well As the bio system. Many treatment process such As oxidationprecipitation, coagulation-precipitation, adsorption-ion exchange and membrane process are applied for removal of arsenic from drinking water. The disposal of arsenic contaminated sludge generated from the treatment process is a matter of grave environmental concern due to potential leaching of arsenic into the ground and surface water resources. The present paper reviews the different stabilizing techniques of arsenic contaminated sludge for its safe disposal using cement, polymeric materials, fly Ash and by making bricks out of it and studies the use of Portland cement for the said purpose.
