The model uses mathematical stimulations that are based on advective-dispersive mass transport equations. It computes a series of steady-state water surface profiles and simulates changes in flow conditions along the stream. The model is applicable only to dendritic streams that are well mixed and it assumes that the major transport mechanism is significant only along the main direction of flow of the stream. It calculates the dissolved oxygen balance by including large number of physical parameters. The model developed is transformed or generalized as per the requirement of the study. It includes number of parameters in addition to the parameters used in the Streeter and Phelps equation (1925). In order to test the applicability of model, flow data sets of various sampling sites of river Gomti are collected during the period of January 2015 to December 2015. Gomti river is highly polluted and receives effluents from large number of drains that enter directly into the river carrying untreated industrial and domestic waste. Analysis indicates that the dissolved oxygen has been deteriorated from Gaughat to Pipraghat due to discharge of effluents from about 26 major drains in its entire course at Lucknow Stretch. Water of the river Gomti at upstream of Lucknow i.e. Gaughat showed minimum BOD and maximum dissolved oxygen. Study indicates that the result obtained from the generalized equation which was proposed by Camp (1963) gives the better result as compared to the Streeter and Phelps equation (1925).
