Owing to extensive use of electricity in home and industries, electrocution injuries are one of the common causes of morbidity and mortality in India. A retrospective study was undertaken of deaths due to electrocution that occurred over one year period from January 2014 to December 2014. The bodies were autopsied at the Department of Forensic Medicine, Madurai Medical College and Hospital, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. A total of 33 cases were identified and all were accidental: 31males and 2 females. The majority of deaths occurred in the 21–30 year age group. Most deaths were due to high voltage circuits. Deaths were caused most frequently by touching an electric wire. No characteristic seasonal variation was noted in this study and most of the victims are brought dead to the hospital.
