poisoning cases are increasing as epidemiological, social and medicolegal problem in all over the world.
our aim of the study is to develop the statistical profile of poisoning cases in relation to their medico-legal aspect.
this is a retrospective and cross-sectional study on the 142 poisoning cases noted in the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, J.L.N. Medical College, Ajmer, in the period starts from Jan. 2013 to December 2015.
The incidence of poisoning, males being common victim and male: female ratio of 2.1: 1. Maximum cases were observed in Hindu community. Evening time encountered maximum cases with common place of exposure being home. Maximum involvement of married males with Present study shows, married people (100 cases, 70.43%) are commonly involved as compared to unmarried (41 cases, 28.87%). Majority of victims (112 cases, 78.88%) consumed the poisons to commit suicide as per history followed by Accidental nature (22 cases, 15.49%). Aluminium phosphide is most commonly encountered poison (28 cases, 19.71%) leading to maximum fatalities, very closely followed by Organophosphorus compounds (25 cases, 17.61%) and corrosive substance (18 cases, 12.68%).
