Abstract

Identification of both the living and the dead is of paramount importance for variety of reasons in forensic practice routinely. Identification of an individual either living or dead is usually carried out by the police. However, where medical expertise is needed for elucidation of disputed facts, a medical man may be consulted.1

There are several criteria's which are used for identification. One such criterion is the determination of age of an individual. Determination of age of a person is a common problem that demands forensic expertise and is an important criterion in the establishment of identity of an individual2. In addition to identification of a person, age is an important feature in day to day legal system, in both civil as well as criminal cases.3
