The preservation of residual renal function was associated with improved calcium and phosphate metabolism and improvement of mortality and morbidity in hemodialysis patients.
For assessment the achievement of the Kidney disease outcome quality initiative guidelines for appropriate serum calcium, serum phosphate, calcium by phosphate product by product and serum parathyroid hormone and the contribution role of residual renal function for that achievement.
Cross section study of (50) hemodialysis patient patient who divided in to two group, anuric patients and those with preserved then head to head comparison between them for the achievement of kidney disease outcome quality initiative guidelines, were P. value above (0.05) was statistically not significant.
There was a difference although statistically not significant it appeared that patients, anuric group mean Serum phosphate = (6.8± 1.2) mg/dl vs preserved residual renal function group = (6.01± 1.85). kidney disease outcome quality initiative guidelines achievement was 25% versus 43.3% respectively. P. value= 0.75. Anuric group mean Serum calcium = (7.4± 1.2) mg/dl versus (7.6± 1.39) and kidney disease outcome quality initiative guidelines achievement for anuric patients = 30% versus 30%. P. value= 0.18. So anuric had higher serum phosphate and lower serum calcium levels.
The preservation of residual renal function was beneficial for hemodialysis patients.
