Effectiveness of Baby Massage and Spa on Increasing Weight of Baby with Malnutrition

Abstract

Nutritional status influencing child optimal growth and development will influence the quality of adult human resources. Baby massage and spa is a holistic care therapy. The aim was to analyze effectiveness of baby massage and spa to increase weight on malnutrition. This research used experimental method, by dividing the sample into 3 groups. Interventions were performed for 5 days in 1 week with a 30-minute for baby massage and added 20–25 minutes for baby spa within 6 weeks. Subjects were assessed for pre and post-intervention weight gain to determine weight gain. Data analysis used t-paired test and continued one way anova test. T-test analysis showed there was influence of baby massage on weight gain (p <0.005), there was influence of Baby Spa on weight gain (p <0.005), there was difference of weight gain in control group to Baby spa group and Baby Massage group (p <0.005), but there was no difference in weight gain in the group of baby massage and baby spas (p> 0.005). In conclusion, baby massage and baby spa can be used as an alternative management of malnutrition.
