Abstract

Aluminum phosphide (ALP) is a grain insecticide commonly used in India. We are reporting a suspected case of poisoning, presenting with the symptoms of severe epigastric pain, nausea and vomiting. The diagnosis of ALP poisoning was confirmed by history, and toxicology screening. After 36 hrs of admission, a sudden rise in respiratory rate, pulse, blood pressure, temperature, messator spasm, and muscle rigidity was noted. Caffeine halothane contraction test later confirmed it to be malignant hyperthermia. Considering the poorly understood patho-physiology of malignant hyperthermia and ALP, further research is required regarding the possible association of ALP with malignant hyperthermia.
