Abstract

Road Traffic Accidents are the fourth leading cause of death following heart disease, cancer and stroke. Hence accidents pose a major medico-legal problem for the population of India. The present study is done to understand the pattern of thoraco-abdominal trauma in fatal road traffic accidents in Aurangabad District of Maharashtra.

This hospital based retrospective research work was conducted in above Medical College Hospital during May 2003 to 2005 wherein 150 cases were included.

Majority of the victims were males in 30 to 39 years age group, most of them died within 0–12 hours of accident. Maximum victims had thoraco-abdominal trauma and were brought dead.
