Abstract

Head injuries due to various causes are commonly encountered by forensic pathologist, and most of the deaths due to head injuries have findings viz, fractures and intracranial hemorrhages. In the absence of either, Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI) a type of traumatic brain injury, to be considered. DAI is one of the most common and devastating types of traumatic brain injury. A clinical entity which is difficult to demonstrate at routine autopsy, but by using special stains and techniques, a positive diagnosis of DAI can be made. A case of road traffic accident with head injury having died due to DAI is being presented.
