Abstract

A study was conducted in the rural area of Bihar from October to November 2020 with a sample size of 40 animals on the day of oestrus to evaluate the nutritional and reproductive management followed by the farmers. The experimental animals ranged from zero to fifth parity and overall breeding and feeding management were recorded, oestrus sign pattern was listed out, time of insemination relative to oestrus was recorded and cervical mucus was scored to correlate with the conception rate. From this study, it was clear that nutritional factor was still an area of concern to target improvement of the livestock. This study also highlights the cervical mucus pattern using a crystoscope as an easy, simple and cost-effective oestrus detection aid.
