Samples of paddy straw (Variety ADT 43) were collected from six different rice growing districts of Tamilnadu, subjected to chaffing followed by drying and ground in a Wiley type mill to pass through 1 mm sieve and subjected to enzyme treatment with cellulase (40, 60 and 80 IU/g DM) and xylanase (67,100 and 133 IU/g DM). Measurements for sugar release were recorded at 2, 12, 18 and 24 hours of incubation. Enzymatic release of monosaccharides from paddy straw lead to conclude that mixture of 80 IU of cellulase and 100 IU of xylanase are required per g DM of paddy straw to maximize the nutritive value.
