Abstract

Assessment of antibacterial activity of different polyherbal preparations used as tooth powder indicated that out of the three, two preparations had antibacterial activity at concentrations of 5 and 2.5 per cent against wide variety of bacteria, which includes standard as well as field isolates (Pseudomonas sp., E. coli, S. aureus MTCC- 426, Proteus sp, S. aureus MTCC-1430, S. aureus MTCC-96 and S. epidermidis ATCC-35983, S. epidermidis field isolate). Based on the present results, it is speculated that these preparations could be used as an alternative topical antibacterial and can reduce use of antibiotics at the field level.
