Prevalence of caprine Taenia hydatigena cysticercosis (Cysticercus tenuicollis) in durg, Chhattisgarh

Abstract

A total of 652 goats were screened from the slaughter house at supela, Bhilai, Chhattisgarh during the period from Dec. 2007 to Sept. 2008. Out of them, 137 (21.01%) goats were positive for T. hydatigena cysticercosis. Season-wise prevalence indicated 23.95%, 20.61% and 16.29% infection during winter, summer and rainy season, respectively. The result revealed significant sex-wise prevalence (p<0.05) of the disease where 13.82% male goats were positive for this infection while in female it was 22.68%. Organ-wise studies showed that the cyst were present mainly at mesentry and omental fat region (84.67%) followed by liver (8.03%) and diaphragm (0.73%). Around 6.57% goats showed the cysts both in liver and mesentry and omental fat.
