Abstract

An investigation was carried out in healthy normal cyclic and repeat breeding heifers and cows. Different parameters like serum LH and progesteron (P4) profile and conception rate following Cloprostenol therapy were studied. Normal cyclic animals registered a lower P4 values at estrus than their repeat breeding counter parts and higher P4 value at day 10 post-estrus. Repeat breeding cows recorded significantly higher pretreatment P4 value (p<0.01) compared to normal cyclic cows at estrus. However, in normal cyclic heifers, the P4 value differed significantly from repeat breeding counter parts on day 10 of sampling. The serum LH concentration in normal cyclic cows and heifers registered numerically higher values than repeat breeding animals, but it was significantly higher (p<0.05) in normal cyclic cows than repeat breeding cows. Administration of PGF2α at estrus has reasonably improved the conception rate compared to control.
