An experiment was conducted to evaluate the hypocholesterolaemic effect of indigenous herb turmeric (Curcuma longa) in comparison with simvastatin in Wister albino rats. The biochemical parameters viz., serum total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) and triglycerides (TG) were estimated on day one before treatment, and on day forty two of the treatment. The groups treated with simvastatin alone, turmeric alone at different levels, and combination of simvastatin and turmeric have shown hypocholesterolaemic effects and combinations have shown additive effect.
