A simple measure to prevent “metritis - mastitis - agalactia syndrome” in post partum sows

Abstract

The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of single shot long acting antibiotic therapy in advanced stages of pregnancy in Large White Yorkshire pigs on the incidence of metritis mastitis agalactia syndrome and its impact on their litters. From this study it can be concluded that prophylactic medication with long - acting penicillin as a single dose, five days prior to expected date of farrowing was effective in controlling MMA syndrome in disease prone farms and improved their litter performance.
