Abstract

In the present study, antiulcer activity of Curcuma longa was evaluated against the NSAID induced gastric ulcer in rats. The ulcers were produced by oral administration of indomethacin @ 15mg/kg b.w. The extract of C. longa was given @ 600mg/kgb.w., by oral route to the experimental albino rats. In the present experiment, ranitidine was used as standard drug. Alcoholic extract of C. longa significantly reduce the number and severity of the gastric ulcers. In the C. longa treated group, lower ulcer index and ulcer score and higher healing index was found, which indicates the ulcer protective action of C.longa.
