Older adults in various communities in Africa are seen as vast in wisdom, values, and beliefs of their respective societies such that their pronouncement on issues appears to be binding. Against the incursion of the formal justice system, this study sought to examine the role of older adults in dispute resolution in Uwelu Community, Southern Nigeria. A cross-sectional research design that used questionnaires to gather data from 482 respondents was employed while the social solidarity and social bond theories formed the theoretical basis for the explanation of the topic under investigation. The study found that older adults were not only still involved in the settlement of disputes but they were very efficient and effective. It was suggested that government should develop a clear legal and policy framework that would not make older adults be the first port of call in the settlement of disputes but equally give them monthly stipends.
