Abstract

The purpose of this narrative review was to understand the influence of lower limb muscle strength on balance among the geriatric population. For this purpose, eleven articles published in last pastfive years (2013–2021) were reviewed. These studies were based on elderly persons of 65 years and above and were selected from PubMed and Google scholar using keywords andfilters. Studies on unstable physical conditions, including illness, and fall risk due to other than musculoskeletal reasons were excluded. The reviewed articles apprise the influences on lower limb muscle strength with balance in the Indian geriatric population to prevent fall risks. The study concludes that there is a strong relationship between muscle strength and static and dynamic balance. It is important to understand the association between the lower limb muscle strengths in fall prevention in the Indian geriatric population.
