Abstract

This study aimed to find whether body balance differs with nutritional status among the elderly. Eighteen thousand nine hundred twenty-three elderly individuals from the Longitudinal Aging Study of India, 2020, were selected for the study. A semi-tandem test and gait speed were selected as parameters of body balance, and the body mass index was used to indicate nutritional status. One way ANOVA and post hoc analyses were performed significant difference (P<0.001) in body balance were observed among groups of elderly individuals; the grouping of the elderly was made based on their nutritional status based on BMI. The study revealed that nutritional status can be essential in maintaining appropriate body balance among the Indian elderly.
