Abstract

Anthropometric measurements are more useful in assessing the nutritional status of elderly as they provide non invasive and easy information on nutritional status of elderly and quite inexpensive to operate. The present investigation was carried out to assess nutritional status of 500 institutionalized elderly (231 males and 269 females), ages varying from 60 to 70 years, residing in covering eight districts of Marathwada region. Maharashtra state of India. The anthropometric measurements of elderly subjects were recorded by using standard procedures. Statistical analysis of collected data was carried out after consolidation and computation to interpret the results. The findings of this study revealed that Sex wise comparison indicated that except for mid arm circumference the other entire circumferences and triceps skinfold exhibited significant difference between men and women. All anthropometric measurements decreased with increase in age. The majority of studied elderly were found to have normal BMI which decreased with advancement of age.
