Abstract

This study aims to provide a conceptual outline for understanding the nuances of marginality and how social inequality and gender disparities can exacerbate vulnerabilities in old age. The findings highlight the increasing complexity of life for older adults in urban areas, necessitating multifaceted strategies for addressing their needs. It sheds light on various factors deeply intertwined with social inequalities and the limited representation of certain groups in mainstream activities. Drawing from data collected from multiple sources and building upon previous studies, this research underscores the importance of addressing social and cultural practices to facilitate healthy ageing in urban environments. Further, this study emphasizes the crucial role of community involvement in implementing remedial measures at institutional or residential levels to address the concerns surrounding the cultural, socioeconomic, and community aspects of elderly life in metropolitan cities.
