Abstract

SoftBank is one of the leading providers of information technology and telecommunication services. In the path to become No.1 Company in the world, SoftBank's visionary leader Masayoshi Son has configured an aggressive growth route through investments in internet companies. This paper highlights the rise of SoftBank under the leadership of Mr. Son Special focus is laid on the recent investments of SoftBank in India's booming start-ups to identify which capabilities may be transferable to emerging countries and may cause disruption. We attempt to draw implications on how firms of Indian origin (FIOs) can compete or respond to such disruptive innovators. The paper is a useful read to leaders of firms who wish to gain a competitive advantage in the current disruptive milieu.
