Nucleolar behaviour during mitosis have been described in two species, Acanthus ilicifolius and Asistasia coromaneliana. Evidence has been presented in support of the view that in root-tip colls persistent nucleoli very often get included in the daughter nuclei during telophase.
The high and sometimes variable chromosome numbers found in root-tip cells as well as the frequent casting out of one or more chromosomes in the cytoplasm during mitosis, suggest that both the species are unstable polyploids.
