Abstract

The morphology and genetics of two new mutants, viz. Bunchy and Tiny-leaved-2, have been described.

The normal and the bunchy mutant have been tentatively given the genic symbols, Bu and bu, respectively, and the normal and tiny-leaved mutant as T1v and t1v, respectively.

The bunchy mutant character has proved to be unstable and exhibits a tendency to revert back to the normal:

Both the mutants, viz. Bunchy and Tiny-leaved-2, are simple recessives to the normal type.

The cross between the Bunchy and Tiny-leaved mutant-2 gives a dihybrid segregation. The normal type is produced as a result of factor interaction between the two dominant genes of the two mutant parents and the new type designated as Bunchy-tiny-leaved, is the result of the double homozygous recessive genotype bu bu t1vt1v.
