Abstract

Studies were conducted to collect information on the genetics of seedling resistance to Indian races of stem rust.

For race 40, studies indicated that both N.P. 790 and E. 1913[=(Kenya-Gular-Pilot) X K-58-New Thatch,] carried one dominant factor pair for resistance.

The resistant parents, N.P. 790 and E. 1913, were found to carry two duplicate dominant factors governing resistance to race 75.

The results are discussed in the light of similar segregations obtained in studies with certain other Indian races of this rust and also in relation to the wheat breeding work in India.
