1. Number of eggs laid per plant by Jowar shoot fly varies from one to eight. In most of the cases, one to two eggs per plant are laid.
2. The eggs are laid on the first eight leaves of a plant near the mid rib. Generally, third and fourth leaves have got maximum number of eggs.
3. There exists a positive correlation between number of eggs laid and characters like leaf number and infestation percentage while the correlation with plant height and days to 50 per cent. bloom is negative.
4. The varietal resistance varies greatly, the infestation percentage varying from 0 to 87 per cent. There was considerable phenotypic variability existing in the material with respect to plant height, leaf number and number of eggs per plant.
5. Generally, on resistant varieties lesser number of eggs are laid than on susceptible ones.
6. Several varieties like I.S. 1005, 1056, 1119, 2245 have been found to be highly resistant to this fly.
