Abstract

The mode of inheritance of resistance to races G, 19, 31 and A of yellow rust and inter-relationships between the genes involved were studied. In the crosses of the rust resistant variety E.B. 410, resistance to races G, 19 and 31 was observed to be governed by single dominant factor pair and that to race A by duplicate dominant genes.

Results obtained also indicate that out of the two independent, dominant genes in E.B. 410 for resistance to these four races, one confers resistance against all the races and the other is effective against race A only.

The importance of these studies in relation to breeding for rust resistance is discussed.
