Abstract

The mode of inheritance of leaf colour (purple, green, whitish), petal colour, and wavy nature of leaf was studied in rai (B. juncea) varietal crosses. The purple colour of leaf was found to be epistatic, to either or both pairs of duplicate factors present for green colour. The non-presence of these three pairs of factors led to the development of whitish colouration of leaf. The differences between yellow and white corolla were found to be digenic giving a ratio of 12 yellow:3 pale yellow:1 whitish, indicating the presence of an epistatic factor for yellow colour. Wavy nature of leaf was monogenically dominant over simple leaf.
