Abstract

The resistance of chilli variety Puri Red to mosaic appears to be due to a single gene which is linked in the repulsion phase with erect fruit position (c.o. value, 34.3 ± 1.1) but is independent of the loci governing leaf colour, petal colour and colour of the immature and mature fruit. Resistance is dominant to susceptibility. Purple leaf colour is dependent on the presence of dominant alleles at two loci and the absence of a dominant inhibitory factor. Pigmentation of petal and mature and immature fruits as well as fruit position are under monogenic control. One of the loci governing leaf colour has pleiotropic effect on immature and flower petal colour but immature and mature fruit colour are governed by two separate, independent loci.
