One hundred varieties of barley were grown in a plot having 5–6 cysts of the causal organism (Heterodera avenae) per 100 gm. of soil, at the Agriculture Research Station, Durgapura (Jaipur), Rajasthan.
Observations recorded a fortnight after the germination on the plant growth indicated that the varieties could be divided into two distinct groups on the basis of their reaction to the causal organism. The two-rowed varieties belonging to Hordeum distichon showed resistance while the six-rowed Hordeum vulgare types gave a susceptible reaction.
