Abstract

Studies on pollination in diploid and tetraploid strains of berseem (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) suggest that this crop is not self-sterile but that tripping is essential for a good seed-set. Hand tripping can effect a seed-set almost equal to that under open-pollination. Under field conditions tripping by hand in addition to open pollination does not seem to increase seed yield significantly as wind serves as an important agency to bring about tripping.
