F2 populations of two inter-varietal crosses in brinjal were studied for evidence of linkage of anthocyanin pigmentation in different plant parts, namely, anther tip, leaf-vein, stem, petiole, pedicel, fruit, corolla, and leaf margin. Evidence of linkage, in coupling phase, was obtained between (a) genes for anther tip and pedicel pigmentation, and (b) genes for leaf vein, stem and petiole pigmentation thus constituting two linkage groups. Independent segregation of anther tip pigmentation from leaf-vein, stem, and petiole pigmentation and of pedicel pigmentation from leaf-vein, stem, and petiole pigmentation was noted.
