The inheritance of anthocyanin pigment at the early seedling stage in diploids was found to be under simple monogenic control, the deep or light red colour being completely dominant over the green. This study was also carried out at the seedling stage of autotetraploid. In this, different ratios under the assumption of random chromosome and random chromatid assortment were realized suggesting irregular quadrivalent formation among the homologues carrying this gene as well as loose linkage of this locus with the centromere. The whole study has been carried out in petri-dishes involving minimum time and space and maximum population. The utility of such a type of study in estimating natural out-crossing is pointed out.
