Exposure to fast neutron besides inducing dwarfism in rice variety As. 35 also affects the internal tissue and particularly the parenchymatous cells which become irregular in size and shape. Reduction in the amount of mechanical tissue was also found. It seems that due to irradiation, the process of secondary thickening in the parenchyma is affected. Occurrence of intra-cortical roots in rice was also reported.
