Inheritance of Specific Sedimentation Value in a Spring Wheat Cross

Variations in specific sedimentation value were studied in single plant populations of the P₁, P₂, F¹, F₂, P₁ F₁, and P₂ F₁ generations and rows of the F₃, F₄, and F₅ families. The F₁ population showed partial dominance for high specific sedimentation value while the segregation in the F₂ indicated a multigenic control for this character. Narrow sense heritability was 50 percent Correlations between lines in the F₃, F₄, and F₅ generations were extremely high, indicating that selection in early generations for high specific sedimentation value would be effective.
