The inheritance of lateral spikelet fertility in the crosses of two-rowed E.B. 410, E.B. 438 with six-rowed varieties N.P. 100 and E.B. 400 was studied. The two two-rowed varieties appeared to be of different genotypes. The genotypes of E.B. 410 and E.B. 438 are postulated to be VV II and VV ii respectively while six-rowed N.P. 100 and E.B. 400 are genotypically vv II. It is suggested that E.B. 410, an infertile intermedium can be used as the tester in identifying genotypes of unknown six-rowed and two-rowed varieties.
