Twenty families from the F4 generation of a double cross, (H. 14 × K. 3814) × (S. 41 × Sealand 7), were studied for genetic variances, covariances and correlations of all possible combinations of yield and yield components, viz., plant height, monopodia, sympodia, boiling potential, boll number, boll weight and boll setting percentage. In general, the correlation coefficients between various characters were in conformity with those reported by earlier workers. Path coefficient analysis revealed that among all the characters studied, sympodia and boll weight contributed the most, both directly and indirectly through each other, towards yield.
