Genetic variability and heritability were studied in 50 natu tobacco types collected from the different areas of South India, for the important quantitative characters, flowering time, plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf length and breadth, green and cured leaf yields and lamina-midrib proportion. Major portion of the variance, in respect of all the characters, was contributed by the genotypic component. High genetic variability was observed for the characters, plant height, number of leaves per plant, green-and cured-leaf yields. Heritability estimates were high for all characters.
