Abstract

The natural outcrossing in mung bean (Phaseolus sureus Roxb.) is non-random, irrespective of genotype and season. It is a charateristic feature of the mating system of this species.

The frequency of outcrossing is highly variable. It is suggested that to have a better estimate of outcrossing parental genotypes, marker loci, and seasons should be varied.

The small amount of natural cross-pollination in mung been is potentially capable of enhancing genetic variation
