The field of activity relating to plant introduction as an independent scientific discipline has been outlined. The situation current in India in relation to this field has been surveyed in the light of that which exists in many of the other countries of the world. A plea is made for rigid observance of plant introduction and quarantine procedures at least by all Indian scientists concerned.
