The present study suggests that there is evidence of genetic segregation for and continuous variation in specific gravity in potato and the possibility of genetic gain for this character by selective hybridization. The low heritability estimates suggest that this character is highly influenced by environmental factors. It is concluded that the parental performance for specific gravity cannot be used to accurately predict progeny specific gravity.
